FACT: We are in extreme ecological overshoot.

FACT: Our overshoot is scientifically measured as the global usage of 1.7 planets/year.

FACT: This overshoot is driving the 6th mass extinction, ecosystem collapse, and climate change.

FACT: Continuing in overshoot will trigger ecological and climate feedbacks that, in turn, will trigger rapid global collapse.

FACT: Stopping overshoot requires, at least, 0.7 planets worth of reduction in consumption, extraction and exploitation (1.7 – 0.7 = 1).

FACT: There is an extremely narrow window to reach 1 planets/year.

FACT: The speed and large scale of this contraction of the human enterprise meets definitions of collapse.

‘Doomers’ is a pejorative label used by progressives and conservatives alike, against people who accept the #newtruth that #collapse is inevitable. In attempting to marginalise those who speak the truth of collapse, those applying the ‘#doomers’ label attempt to limit what action is possible and change is imaginable. In denying the truth of collapse, the label ‘doomers’ confines debate and action within the parameters of the power-elite and infinite growth status quo. It acts to perpetrate #ecocide and injustice. When people recognise collapse as inevitable, they are more, not less, likely to act. Until a #plannedcollapse of the human enterprise is on the agenda, COP26 is ecocide. The Earth is in overshoot due to the legacy of colonization, the continuance of extractive industry, and infinite growth (e.g. energy, consumption, population). Planetary limits have been exceeded.
