COP is ecocide

As well as failing on CO2, until a #PlannedCollapse of the human enterprise is on the agenda, COP is ecocide. The Earth is in #ExtremeOvershoot due to the legacy of colonization, the continuance of extractive industry, and infinite growth (e.g. energy, consumption, population). Planetary limits have been exceeded. Not addressing this is suicide. Seek justice! Take action! (Reposted from six weeks ago, for new subscribers). #JustCollapse

What is radical action?

We’re long past #overshoot and now #collapse is inevitable. This unprecedented moment calls on us to consider; what is radical action?

‘Has the climate movement failed? It’s hard to look at the world at this moment and not conclude that the answer is yes. A new book by Andreas Malm, a professor of human ecology at Sweden’s Lund University, asks a simple but perplexing question: Given the stakes, why hasn’t the global climate movement become far more radical than it is?’ #WeCannotBeRadicalEnough

Quit the hopium

The failure of the climate/environmental movement means that alternative approaches to action are urgently needed for a #JustCollapse. End the #NewDenial and quit the #hopium, because: ‘When you give up on hope, you turn away from fear… And when you quit relying on hope, and instead begin to protect the people, things, and places you love, you become very dangerous indeed to those in power.’

Its very strange

It’s just so very strange how we don’t #TalkCollapse.

“It’s like if you knew you had a deadly but treatable disease, and not only did you not pursue treatment, you also didn’t think about it much and didn’t talk about it with anyone”.

Not talking about #collapse is bad for our psyche and bad for our future. #TalkCollapse because a collapse-conscious citizenry can plan for a #JustCollapse.

The climate war won’t work

‘..there is no part of the manufacture, transportation, deployment and maintenance of wind turbines and solar panels which does not involve fossil fuels… there is no way that either technology can generate the heat required to build their replacements… the only sensible option left to us is a process of managed de-growth.’ The nature and scale of such degrowth meets the definition of collapse. A #PlannedCollapse is a #JustCollapse.

When did we collapse?

When do you think we pass(ed) the point of no return?

  • Advent of agriculture (~10,000 years ago)
  • Western colonialization (~400 years ago)
  • Industrial Revolution (~300 years ago)
  • Post-WWII boom (~70 years ago)
  • Planetary overshoot (~50 years ago)
  • Kyoto Protocol (~30 years ago)
  • Arctic sea ice decline (~20 years ago)
  • Atmospheric CO2 at 400ppm (~8 years ago)
  • COP26 (~now)
  • Blue ocean event (~15 years from now)
