There are no viable scenarios for the avoiding civilisational collapse and an inhospitable Earth – according to the new United Nations GAR2022 report.
Two scenarios are based on not having crossed planetary boundaries. We have already crossed six out of nine boundaries, as the diagram on the right shows (in orange). The remaining two scenarios are collapse – one fast and one, perhaps, slower.
This is the science of #overshoot. For 50 years, we have used more of the Earth than can be replenished and polluted more than can be absorbed. Now in collapse, we must act for ecological and social justice as a means of easing the descent. A #PlannedCollapse is a #JustCollapse.
