‘If there’s one thing that 2020 taught us it’s that if we prepare for a health crisis as if it were only a health crisis, then we miss the boat.’ Likewise, if we prepare for collapse as if its all about fossil fuel emissions, then we not only ‘miss the boat’, we hit the rocks hard.
For the wealthy, collapse may remain abstract and distant in the short-term, but its horrors will inevitably come for all. Temporarily protecting privilege heightens suffering and risk. Engaging with collapse through a lens of justice can ease the descent, including for those already identified as vulnerable and at risk. A steep slide or a sheer cliff?
