The question we should always be prepared to answer about any of our public communications: how much of our well-meaning critiques contain pie-in-the-sky, evidence -free hopium?
The Marburg conference, sponsored by an automotive engineer-named NGO, makes for some nice charts and pietistic pronouncements, but it is afflicted with the incapacity to identify the growing power of global fascism. It is useless, and sad, to ignore the social reality of corporate and state-corporate institutional ownership. German and US sponsorship of ethnic techowar in Palestine, among all the other data points of political corruption, ought to be acknowledged by these conference participants.

Yes, initiatives like Marburg are not solutions, or responses, to the social and political complexities of collapse, despite the claims of ‘future-proofing’ and sustainability. They do, however, provide examples for people wondering how to kick start their own responses via #InsurgentPlanning and other grassroots initiatives.

We are Collapsniks in our late 70s. We don’t think this so-called civilization can continue much longer. Pollution, in the form of microplastics, PFAS forever chemicals and greenhouse gases, is contaminating the oceans, the atmosphere and the soil everywhere on Earth, just as Limits of Growth predicted in the early 1970s. Nevertheless, we grow as much of our own food as we possibly can here in Southern New Mexico–for the same reasons Just Collapse advocates food security: to mitigate our community’s inevitable collapse and soften the landing.
